I cannot believe that Rhydian didn't win the xfactor. I have nothing against young Leon and thought the youngsters may vote him in.

However, Rhydian's number was not put on screen until nearly the end of the 2nd half with only minutes to vote. Leon's number was on at the beginning. After reading comments about all who couldn't get through and also the Judges comments to Rhydian at the end, I now believe that it was all rigged, particularly after all the problems with voting systems recently.

However, I still feel this was fortunate for Rhydian, he is free to do his own thing and will get many many offers, not tied into a year's contract. Like many others I wish him all the luck in the world and can't wait to purchase his first album and I guess it won't be long before he is in a West End Show. His rendition of Phantom was truly amazing, I saw the original cast with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman, but Rhydian took my breath away.

Fans of Welsh baritone Rhydian Roberts claim he was robbed of the X Factor crown last night because the talent show's voting lines were constantly engaged.

The ITV1 programme's message board and Rhydian Roberts fansites have today been inundated with complaints from fans claiming they could not get through to register their vote. Scottish vocalist Leon Jackson was the surprise winner in the finale, upsetting Roberts – the bookmakers' favourite - and sibling duo Same Difference to take the title. An X Factor spokesperson today denied there were problems with the show's voting system, although she said some viewers may have had problems with their phone service providers. But in a year in which broadcasters have been dogged by phone-in scandals, fans immediately suspected foul play. On the Rhydian Roberts fansite, those who were unable to cast their vote are being urged to email news organisations to complain. One fan, Emma Newton, wrote: "I tried and tried and tried to vote for Rhydian! And the phone was constantly engaged!" Another fan, Lisa, wrote: "I tried for 15 minutes to register my vote for you [Rhydian] without success. You were robbed." Henry1234 said: "I also tried to vote many times for Rhydian and got the engaged tone… That Leon won is a joke - for the first time ever I wont be buying the X Factor single." On the official X Factor message board, Sally_T85 complained that she could not get through for the last half hour of the show. "On Rhydian forums I am visiting 75 per cent per cent of members are saying that they couldn't vote because all they got was an engaged tone from landlines. The only way they could get through was from a mobile. I couldn't vote for the last 20-30 minutes of the results show," she said. However, some Leon Jackson supporters also reported problems getting through to cast their votes. Sandra Lemetti wrote on the Scottish singer's fansite: "Well done Leon. Tried hundreds of times tonight to get through but only managed a few votes due to high demand." The X Factor spokesperson said there were some reports of problems with callers whose phone service is provided by Virgin Media, but that this was unrelated the show's voting system.

In court papers filed today in L.A. County Superior Court, Donna Tillman claims she came on down in June 2004 and won a new Pontiac GTO Coupe, worth $33,495. Not bad, right? Here's where it gets screwy. Tillman claims her car got bounced around from Australia to San Francisco to Pasadena before being delivered to her.

A year later, Tillman says she took the car in for some maintenance work, and was told by her local dealership the car had "existing front end and structural frame damage" and that the repairs had been done in a way to "conceal or hide the damage by persons unknown."

Tillman is suing the tv game show, CBS, the car dealership and the transport company, claiming negligence and breach of contract and seeking unspecified damages.

New Ads Show Anyone Can "Win" by Booking Travel Faster, Easier with Orbitz

Chicago, April 13, 2005 - TV game shows have captivated audiences for generations and are an enduring part of American pop culture as evidenced in our TV programming, motion pictures and even as a popular theme for TV commercials. Providing the latest example is Orbitz, the site that makes travel faster and easier, with new commercials debuting this week that feature a classic game show set and host to illustrate how viewers can "win" with Orbitz.

The new Orbitz TV ads include all the highly visual features of classic game shows - sliding doors, moving sets, flashing lights, vivid signage - plus studio audience applause. In the first of what will become a series of TV spots, two contestants - an everyday father, with his three children literally crawling all over him, and a computer expert - compete to book hotels online. Their challenge is to find a hotel in Hawaii on a golf course for under $100 per night, and the father - despite being very distracted - easily wins by using Orbitz.

Keeping the ads true to the game show genre is the casting of Wink Martindale as host. One of the most prolific game show hosts ever, Martindale has hosted 19 separate game shows including Gambit, Tic-Tac-Dough and High Rollers. In a broadcasting career spanning nearly 40 years, Martindale is now a show creator/producer and currently hosts a daily, three-hour music radio show.

"I was thrilled when they asked me to host their commercial," said Wink Martindale, "particularly since I am an Orbitz customer."

Distinctly American, game shows have been ranked among the top-rated shows on TV throughout the latter half of the 20th century. An entire cable network, GSN, has been in existence for 10 years, and devotes more than 100 daytime and primetime hours a week to broadcasts of classic and current game shows. Game show parodies are a mainstay on late night comedy shows, and can even be seen in children's programming.

Many U.S. adults feel the number one skill for being a successful "classic" game show contestant is being knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects (41%), followed by having the ability to think quickly (37%) and exhibiting confidence and poise under pressure (15%).

"Part of the fun in the Orbitz commercial is the 'presumed' winner, the individual with the skill and knowledge to win, loses, and the unexpected contestant actually wins," says Truwit. "Orbitz demonstrates how it is faster and easier to use than other travel services."

Survey Methodology

Harris Interactive® fielded the online survey on behalf of Orbitz between March 21 and 23, 2005 among a nationwide sample of 2,557 U.S. adults aged 18 and over. The data were weighted to be representative of the total U.S. adult population on the basis of region, age within gender, education, household income, race/ethnicity and propensity to be online. In theory, with samples of this size, one could say with 95 percent certainty that the results have a sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. This online sample is not a probability sample.

TV game shows - New TV Game Shows

There's a new crop of game shows coming that hinge on whether contestants are bluffing. And those programs could make air sooner rather than later, if Hollywood writers continue to strike.

Filming has wrapped on ABC's Wanna Bet?, a game show based on a German format, in which celebrities wager on stunt-performing contestants. Also in production is Duel, based on a French format, in which players gamble for prizes, using the bluff as part of their strategy. On CBS' Do You Trust Me?, strangers team up for money, wagering on how much each can depend on the other. On Fox's Moment of Truth, premiering Jan. 23 (and based on a Colombian format), contestants answer questions about their own lives, strapping themselves to lie detectors in a quest for cash. NBC's Amnesia also delves into players' personal lives.

Steve Sternberg, Magna Global's executive vp of audience analysis, said any bluffing trend in game shows may signal broadcasters' attempts to find the next Deal or No Deal. "The networks are always looking to put a new spin on what's working," he said.

The show with perhaps the newest—and unlikeliest—spin is Fox's Moment of Truth. Five years ago, the network tried and failed with extreme game show The Chamber, while ABC had similar results with The Chair.

But with stories about torture and interrogation continuing to make headlines, some advertisers said viewers still may not want to embrace such dark show concepts. "We weren't ready as a culture to embrace it then, and I don't think we're ready now," said Laura Caraccioli-Davis, executive vp at Starcom Entertainment.

What viewers are ready for, everyone seems to agree, are family-friendly game shows. Shows that aren't too risqué. Shows, Sternberg said, that "adults can watch with kids in the room."

And that's just what NBC hopes it has with Amnesia. Craig Plestis, the network's executive vp of alternative programming, compared the eight-episode series to the classic This Is Your Life, "but with stakes to it," he said, adding that Amnesia was much more lighthearted than Fox's Moment of Truth.

Of course, the two networks have battled over formats before, the most recent time occurring after NBC announced The Singing Bee and Fox followed with Don't Forget the Lyrics. But Plestis said this time around it's no contest. "They're completely different formats," he said of Amnesia and Truth. "So I don't see this as a race."

The CW Network will debut Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants, the new one-hour mother/daughter competition series December 12 at 9p, following the season finale of America's Next Top Model. The other seven episodes of Crowned will air Wednesdays at 8p starting December 19 through the finale on January 30. Judges for the series include Carson Kressley, former Miss USA Shanna Moakler and Cynthia Garrett.

SPORTSKOOL, the free On Demand sports network, introduces Magic Johnson Fundamentals series beginning December 18. During the eight episodes, Magic will show off his basketball techniques and drills and he'll be joined by other NBA All-Star players such as Rip Hamilton, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Kenny Smith.

fuse introduces its new series Videos that Rocked the World, unveiling behind-the-scenes stories, interviews and footage surrounding the ten most influential and controversial music videos. The series will air over ten days starting November 26 at 10p, airing weeknights.

It's just about that time to be thinking about your New Year's Eve plans, and Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest are all set. They'll join together again this year to host the 36th edition of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, which starts at 10p, December 31 on ABC. Good to know some things never change.

Clarification: Only CBS News writers are voting to authorize a strike this week (not ABC News writers too). The WGAE hopes to announce the results of that vote on November 19. CBS News writers contract covers 500 people in televisions and radio, both network and local in NY, Chicago, Washington DC and LA. And to clear up any lingering questions, NBC News writers are not aligned with WGAE, and Fox News writers are currently under contract.

WWOR-TV/My9 and the YES Network extended their agreement, keeping WWOR as the exclusive broadcast home of the New York Yankees for one more year through the end of the 2008 season. A total of 21 hi-def games will air on WWOR, which is owned by FOX Television Stations.

Raycom Media, Inc. will acquire Lincoln Financial Group's television operations and Lincoln Financial Sports. The deal includes three television stations, WBTV/Charlotte, WWBT/Richmond and WCSC/Charleston and Lincoln Financial Sports which broadcasts live games across a network of more than 70 stations in the Southeast with its partnership with Raycom Sports for ACC and SEC football and basketball. Currently, Raycom owns or operates 42 television stations, which reaches 11.7% of U.S. television households in 18 states. The sports portion of the transaction is expected to be wrapped up by early next month, with the rest completed by second quarter 2008.
